VBS - 2010
Everyone had a fantastic time, and managed to avoid any messy explosions (but not the messes!) at this year's science-themed VBS! Our children enjoyed music on the big screen, just like the adults have, to start out each morning. We then had a daily visitor straight out of the pages of history as we learned that many famous scientists from modern history to days of old believed in God! In fact, many of them got their starts in science from reading God's word.
In addition to music and the daily visitors, the children made scientific crafts at Inventor's Corner, got their game on with at the Physical Science Center, created and ate some "earthy" experiments at the Geologist's Kitchen, and made some good messes in the Lab, where they experimented with science and learned about the wisdom of the world, and true Wisdom from God.
All week, the children were encouraged to find a science fair project, relate it to the Bible, and present it at the science fair at the end of the week. Quite a challenge while camping in the woods! 13 children took up the challenge, and 10 projects (one done by a team of 3) were entered into Saturday's science fair. Our esteemed panel of judges were given anonymous score sheets, and were not allowed to know who had created what project. Their scores were added up to reveal the winners. Our congratulations go to Team Josh-Chris-Morgan (Norris, Shepley, and Morrison), who earned third place with an innovation on shower water aimed at saving water. Next, we send our congratulations to Maddie Sheets, who earned second place with an explanatory entry about living with Neurofibromatosis. Finally, our first prize winner was Billy Sheets, who submitted a project aimed at innovating cars to saving our natural resources by recycling the energy created by an electric car's tires as it moves down the road.
All of our contestants did a fine job, and all of our students enjoyed a successful and exciting VBS program. Look for registration in the spring for next year's VBS, which will be "Super Sports! Live and Play, God's Way".
God be with you until we are together again!
Miss Jill and the VBS Staff
(Thank you to all the many people who helped make our VBS a success.... and a special "shout out" to the best mad scientist ever, Alec Bell! We'll be looking to recruit you again next year, Alec!)
